What a Purse, Watch & License Plate Have in Common
When a Purse Isn’t Just Any Old Purse
TikToker Chandler West sold a vintage Cartier purse for over $9,000 after buying it for just $1. She discovered the purse during an online estate sale two years ago and later found out its true value on Facebook. The bag opened for bidding at $2,000 and eventually sold for $9,450, including a buyer's premium fee. The story highlights the potential of reselling items from online auctions and estate sales. West's success has sparked interest from viewers who want to learn more about finding valuable vintage items.
Watch Out For This Timepiece!
A rare and well-preserved 1958 Rolex Milgauss watch was sold for an astonishing $2.5 million at Phillips auction in Geneva. The bidding war between a U.S. collector and Rolex itself drove the price far beyond the initial estimate of $1.1 million. The Milgauss was originally designed for scientists working in high-electromagnetic environments, and this particular stainless-steel model featured a black honeycomb dial and a lightning bolt-shaped seconds hand. Discontinued in March of the same year, the Milgauss has seen increased demand in the market, with secondhand prices typically rising by 10 to 20 percent.
Lucky 7 License Plate Sold for Big $$$
A license plate with the number 7 sold in Dubai for a record-breaking price of 55 million dirhams, or nearly $15 million, making it the most expensive plate in the world. The auction was conducted by Emirates Auctions, a company specializing in cars and license plates in the United Arab Emirates. The previous record was held by the 1 license plate, sold in 2008 for 52 million dirhams. The auction proceeds will benefit the charity 1 Billion Meals Endowment, founded by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to address global food insecurity. Other countries like Hong Kong also hold license plate auctions, with prices reaching millions of dollars, while in the U.S., vanity plates are available at a much lower cost with specific regulations in place.
