Update on Thrifted N.C. Wyeth Drawing, Initially Bid at $191,000, Remains Unsold as Buyer Backs Out

Tracy Donahue and her husband discovered a valuable N.C. Wyeth illustration in a $4 thrift store painting. The rare artwork, part of a four-image set for a 1939 edition of Ramona, went up for auction in September and garnered a $191,000 bid. The couple, envisioning plans to pay bills and visit their son in Germany, faced disappointment when the buyer failed to pay. Despite regaining possession of the painting, the unfulfilled sale was a significant letdown for the Donahues.

Levi's Auction Sets Record with Kurt Cobain's Vintage Jeans

A pair of jeans worn by Kurt Cobain in his final days set a Levi’s auction record, selling for $412,750, far surpassing the $10,000 estimate. The jeans were part of Julien’s Auctions' “Played, Worn & Torn: Rock ‘N’ Roll Iconic Guitars and Memorabilia” sale, which also featured Cobain’s Skystang I guitar from his last public performance, selling for $1.6 million. Eric Clapton’s “Fool” guitar also fetched $1.27 million in the auction. The distressed jeans, adorned with decorative patches, were given to Cobain by Babes in Toyland drummer Lori Barbero, and they hold historical significance as Cobain wore them in iconic moments, including the “Heart-Shaped Box” music video and when meeting William S. Burroughs.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.
